Matthew Coughlin

My name is Mr. Coughlin. I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to teach Physical Education at Eagle Peak. In my position, I am able to share my passion for movement, sports, and fitness. Throughout my journey, I have learned a lot about myself by overcoming obstacles and accomplishing goals that at times seemed insurmountable. I believe that with a positive mindset, a high effort level, and self-belief one can achieve what they dream.

I was able to live out a childhood dream of signing a contract and playing professional baseball. This occurred after receiving the honor of All-Conference Pitcher at Butte College and earning a scholarship to Sonoma State University. All of these rewarding events were a byproduct of my original goal of playing collegiate athletics. Athletics have encouraged me to pursue academics. I now have the privilege of teaching and influencing students to achieve through athletics and in all content areas.

At home I have a beautiful family I love very much. My lovely wife Nicole and I have been married for 10 years. We have two wonderful and strong-willed children; a six-year-old son Everett and a three-year-old daughter Isla. They present challenges every day that make us more resilient. I love travel, multiple genres of music, photography, the outdoors, and all types of sports. I spend a lot of time playing a sport called Petanque. I bet you've never heard of it! Google is a great resource if you are interested. I have had the opportunity to compete regionally, nationally, and internationally. I forgot to mention... I also love food! I once ate 21 tacos at a taco truck and two hours later regretted not eating more. The previous record was 20.

Thank you for your time and support! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. I hope we all have a productive year.
