“Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” - Winston Churchill

This will be my first year teaching United States History for Eagle Peak Middle School. I am from Ukiah, where I attended Ukiah High School before relocating to Chico to study at Butte College. I later transferred to Chico State University where I received my bachelor’s degree in German Language and Political Science with a minor in European Studies. After completing my degree I decided to return home to Mendocino County in 2019, where I found work as a substitute teacher for UUSD. This experience is what led me to pursue my teaching credential at Sonoma State University. When I am not teaching, I enjoy baking, traveling, and spending time with my daughter Violet.

Over the last year, I completed my credential while student teaching in Santa Rosa at Maria Carrillo High School. One major takeaway from this experience has been just how important it is to create a strong and welcoming environment for all students. The design for my curriculum is based on assisting all types of learners in developing a deep understanding of how our history influences the world around us every day. Part of that will be asking students to challenge their assumptions and tackle difficult subjects and questions.
