Visiting the RVOEP Site

RVOEP encourages the community to use our nature preserve and to take advantage of this special opportunity to enrich your life by experiencing the wonders of our natural environment. In making use of the site we hope that you will follow the guidelines that we have provided to help us maintain the RVOEP as a model of stewardship that enhances wildlife habitat and provides our students and community with a special place where they can experience and learn about the natural world.

The RVOEP facilities are available to the public throughout the daylight hours in December and January and during the month of July.

RVOEP conducts educational programs for local school groups from August through November and February through June. During these months, community access is limited to the following days and hours:

  • Monday through Friday 2:00 PM until Dusk
  • Saturdays and Sundays Dawn to Dusk any day that the site is not being used for a workshop.

If you would like to make use of the RVOEP site, please review the community guidelines below before visiting the site.

Guidelines for Community Use

Please respect and follow these guidelines when visiting the RVOEP. The RVOEP strives to be a model of stewardship that enhances wildlife habitat and provides our students and community with a special place where they can experience and learn about the natural world.

  • Please restrict your site use to times when outdoor classes are not in session.
  • There is EXTREME FIRE DANGER at this site. ABSOLUTELY NO CAMPFIRES OR SMOKING!
  • Please take home any trash that you bring with you. There is no garbage service at the site.
  • There are no restroom facilities open to the public. (Sorry, but prior vandalism has necessitated locking the bathrooms.)
  • Please keep the gate area free of cars. The gate is locked and visitors need to walk into the site from the main gate. If you arrive in a vehicle, please park it in a spot that does not block the gate.
  • The site is not available for ATVs, due to the damage caused to the trails and wildlife by these vehicles.
  • Smoking and alcohol are prohibited at the RVOEP since it is school property.
  • HORSEBACK RIDERS and MOUNTAIN BIKERS: Please limit your use of RVOEP trails to times when the trails are dry. This means trails are closed during the winter months. Your help to minimize your impact on the RVOEP trail system is greatly appreciated.
  • DOG OWNERS are welcome to walk their dogs, but please keep your dogs with you and help us keep our trails tidy. It is very important that dogs are not allowed to run through the forest or chase wildlife. In the past, unattended dogs have resulted in a marked reduction in our wildlife population. We appreciate you cleaning up after your dogs.
  • WOODCUTTING and trail clearing need to be done by UUSD/RVOEP personnel according to the RVOEP Resource Management Plan. Woodcutting by the public is prohibited.
  • The site closes at dusk. OVERNIGHT CAMPING IS PROHIBITED.

Please enjoy your time at the Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Project.
